We began working on Algi in January, after receiving an invitation from the SHC to join their global competition. This image captures the first day we set up our algae farm at the Westmont Enterprise Hub. Algi was the concept that ignited our passion for exploring the potential of microalgae and its numerous benefits.
After collaborating with the University and the Westmont Enterprise Hub, we successfully registered Algi as a trademark in the UK and filed our patent. During this time, we also qualified for the semi-finals in Switzerland, which filled us with excitement. The image shown captures how our initial idea took shape.
We won the semi-finals in Switzerland and forged valuable connections within the industry. It was thrilling to see people believe in our idea, and everything was finally coming together. Now, only one step remains the finals. We’re determined to win it!
Following the competition, SHC presented us with an incredible opportunity to showcase Algi at the Hospitality Think Tank (HITT). This experience proved to be immensely valuable, allowing us to connect with numerous industry leaders and meet head engineers from various hotel chains. These connections helped us further refine and enhance Algi.
While working on the project and preparing for the competition, we were able to develop our first prototype. The very first version was the one presented in the image. But, we had to switch it up because of the maintenance and the structure. The final prototype build is able to function at a small scale while working with a brain of its own.
After several milestones and learning, we finally presented at the finals at FHS World, Dubai. Algi won the public favourite award by winning the vote, which had over 5000+ participants. This was a chance for Algi to shine and connect with the industry, and we did the same. We spoke to industry leaders and investors in the space making valuable connections. Not only this Algi was in the top 4 teams to present at the Investor’s Nest in Perth at WTTC 2024.
This was one of the key milestones for Algi to present on a big stage at WTTC 2024. As Algi won the prize at the finals in Dubai, we presented in front of real investors and got a chance to spread the word about the product. Seeing our achievements, Westmont Enterprise Hub decided to move ahead with the incubation process and we have made significant progress since then.
After coming back from Australia, we gave our focus on developing the product and proving the concept. Currently we are working on developing a working model and going to test it at labs to prove the concept. We are currently actively raising investment to develop the MVP and have been working on developing our manufacturing and supply chain for the product to launch.
